Summary

This event was a visit to Cisco’s site in Vimercate, organized in collaboration with AEA Polimi – Automation Engineering Association. The visit introduced Telecommunications Engineering students to key technologies shaping the evolution of the Internet, from optical fiber and photonics to high-capacity interconnections enabling data centers, cloud services, and artificial intelligence applications. Students had the opportunity to see concepts studied at university — such as data transmission, optical networks, capacity, latency, energy efficiency, and infrastructure scalability — applied in a real industrial and international context. The visit was hosted by Alessandro Cavaciuti, with talks by Diego Carletti, Maurizio Gazzola, Luca Della Chiesa, Enzo Luca Passerini, and Gabriele Aquaro, and was accompanied by Mattia Pasti, Claudia Rollo, and Valeria Donadio.
